EST/LA’s New Play Development Lab

 

The purpose of the lab is to take a script from its current draft to a draft that is ready for a full production. Each project will have its own unique process according to the needs of the play, the playwright and the company.

The next DevLab program will take place in 2025.

 

Plays for the 2023 Lab were chosen based on a number of criteria, including:

1.  TYPE: full-length;

2. PROVENANCE: written by an EST/LA company member or created/developed through an EST/LA writing program (Playwrights Unit, New West, The Ignite Project)

3. EVALUATION: A). submitted for Winterfest 2023, and received a combined evaluation score of 4 or above in addition to all of the evaluators’ responses; B). The Artistic Director’s evaluation of the script and/or its Winterfest 2023 reading;

4. BOLD THEATRICALITY: Does the storytelling provide an opportunity for the audience to make an imaginative leap?
