Casting for TWO STOP by David Johann Kim
 

EST/LA is currently casting for its world premier production of TWO STOP by David Johann Kim, scheduled to open May 2024. Auditions will take place early March for the roles below. All actors must be local Los Angeles hires.

Rehearsal begins April 2, 2024

Show opens May 4, 2024

Show closes June 9, 2024

 

The production will be produced under the AEA 99-Seat Agreement and take place at Atwater Village Theatre.

Story: 

On the verge of the ’92 LA Riots.

A Korean market.

A murder scene.

A store owner and a neighborhood teenage girl face off.

When her wild card mother arrives, secrets from the past explode in this tiny store.

History and histories go head to head, as LA starts to burn.

Together they reach back decades and across the globe through war, strife, love and life, finding connection and even hope…but will it be enough?

 

Casting Breakdown: 

 

G.G. — (Woman 20-30 to play 16) a 16 year old 3⁄4 Black 1⁄4 Korean girl raised in South Central—forced to become mature beyond her years in many ways. Has a complicated relationship with her mom.

 

JONG —  (Male 45-65) a 59 year old Korean immigrant—came to the US after ROK (South Korean) army fought with US Troops in Vietnam. He’s been running his brother’s small neighborhood convenience store on the north side of South Central LA since his brother was murdered. He knew G.G.’s parents before she was born. There’s a history there.

 

SUNNY — (Woman 30-45) a 39 year old half Black, half Korean woman, G.G.’s single mom — a  fierce émigré/adoptee from South Korea who has faced many obstacles and still has made her way in a hostile world. Sunny & Jong share a mysterious, entwined war-torn history.
